Disabling the USB storage device is of prime importance if you are running a firm with a number of PC's with Windows operating system. The chances are high for a PC to get infected through the USB device, especially when the installed OS is Windows. We have compiled the different steps required to disable USB storage device in a Windows PC. Two cases are under consideration here. 1: If the USB storage device is not installed on your computer and 2: if the USB storage device is already installed.

The machine comes pre-installed with MS Windows Vista Home Basic. All the required links are given in the company's website. But links for drivers for Windows XP is not given in the website. If you have downgraded to Windows XP and you have issues regarding required drivers, we have it solved for you. Two months after the release of Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex, we have downloaded the complete Ubuntu Repositories for Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. The full set of Ubuntu Repository DVDs (set of 6 DVDs) is now available and you can order it through our RequestCD Program. If you get the complete Ubuntu Repository on DVDs you do not have to have an internet connection to install any package that is normally available through Synaptic Package Manager.

We had a query from one of our customers to help them migrate their local mail server to Google Apps. They wanted to do this because they did not have the sufficient in-house capability nor have the funds to get paid external capability to support an internal mail server. One hurdle that they were facing was that they had around 40GB of mail left on the local mail server that they wanted to migrate to the new mail accounts they created on Google Apps.

Continuing the good work we have been doing in the area of Free Software we had recently volunteered our team and resources for the Free Software Free Society International Conference on Freedom in Computing, Development and Culture. The conference was a resounding success in terms of the exposure that it gave to Free Software to the public in Kerala (primarily over internet and media) and more importantly the exposure it gave to the Free Software community in Kerala to the International Free Software Community.

Recently we had to provide support on a Red Hat Server where there were hundreds of users and the user directories organized into hierarchies. Normally we change to a users directory using cd ~username. We had some extra time on our hands and wanted to play with the /etc/passwd file and tried to use awk to do the same thing. The following one liner will do this the hard way :-)

Compaq Presario C765TU is an Intel based laptop from the house of HP-Compaq. It is fitted with an Intel Celeron Processor(1.0GHz), 1GB RAM, 120GB Hard disk, DVDRW, 128MB Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, 15.4" widescreen, wireless, LAN and so on. This system is pre-install with FreeDOS and you need to install an operating system so as to work on it. You will not find any issue in installing GNU/Linux Operating System into this machine. But installing Windows XP would be a problem as HP-Compaq does not support use of any kind of Windows in any of their machines. They support only Vista.
